Cause of the Month: Autism Society of America

BLōFISH was founded on the principle that everyone should have the same opportunities in life no matter one’s identity, race, religion, sexual orientation or abilities, and we believe the way to work toward that vision is through connecting with people in local communities. We always look for partners to give back to who has the same philosophy as us, and with it being Autism Awareness month we found a perfect partner in the Autism Society of America.

Founded in 1965, the Autism Society of America believes in making change the same way we do at BLoFISH, on the ground, in-person and developing local communities for change. Over the last 50 years, the ASA has built locations and local affiliates across the nation.  They rely on the local communities to use the resources provided to them as they see fit, allowing for less waste than other nationally based charities, making an impact directly on the ground.

Autism Society of America local branches across the nation.
Each Autism Society affiliate is its own organization with its own governing board making decisions that best support the needs of families and individuals impacted by autism in their local community and/or state. Each Autism Society affiliate adheres to the highest standards of excellence; these standards include signed policies and statements concerning:
  • Autism Society Options Policy
  • Confidentiality
  • Conflict of Interest and Ethics
  • Non-Discrimination Policy
  • Record Retention and Document Destruction Policy
  • Whistle Blower Policy
  • 990 Financial Documents
  • Responsiveness
  • Service quality and community impact
  • Fiscal controls, good business practice and governance

We will be donating 10% of every online sale to the Autism Society of America for the month of April.

SIMPLE WAYS TO HELP: How to Pack a Care Kit for a Homeless Person

Ben Sollee is originally from Lexington, KY, but now calls the city of Louisville his home. On September 12, 2018, he performed a small, intimate show in the backyard of BLōFISH Clothing's Market St. location for a group of the brand's friends and family.

The concert was more than just a reason for friends to gather, listen to his unique bluegrass take on the cello, and enjoy some craft beers from West Sixth Brewing, however. A portion of the ticket sales and t-shirts sold that evening, went to benefit BLoFISH's cause of the month, Give an Hour.

Wrestler, Veteran, Kentuckian: Mike Hayes’ Story
Wrestler, Veteran, Kentuckian: Mike Hayes’ Story

This month, we knew we wanted to give back to a cause that would help veterans, but we were struggling to find a name for the collection.

That all changed once we were introduced to Mike Hayes. I'll do my best to tell you about him, but be sure to listen to the podcast where he is our featured guest - his story is incredible and more than I can include in this blog alone.
